Bolsonaro’s campaign tries to dissociate Aid Brasil from Bolsa Família

President Jair Bolsonaro’s reelection campaign is preparing a political strategy in an attempt to dissociate Auxílio Brasil from Bolsa Família, a social program created by former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The evaluation of political coordination, based on internal research, points out that part of the electorate still calls the new social program by its old name, Bolsa Família, associating it with the former PT president.

The diagnosis, made at CNN is that the perception of these voters, especially in the North and Northeast regions, has limited the perspective of the president’s growth in electoral polls.

In addition to the orientation for Bolsonaro to refer more to the social program in official speeches, the PL should explore the social benefit in its party insertions scheduled for June.

Auxílio Brasil was created last year as a reformulation of Bolsa Família. The social program is broader than the previous one: the number of families covered is greater, as is the average value.

The name change was precisely aimed at removing PT’s fingerprints from the federal benefit, creating a social flag for the current management in an election year.

Amid the recovery from the pandemic scenario, Auxílio Brasil has helped to supplement the average income of the needy population, but rising inflation and lower wages have limited its impact.

According to calculations made by LCA Consultores, Auxílio Brasil should represent, this year, 2.2% of the country’s total income, which is the sum of everything that all Brazilians receive in wages.

The Bolsa Família, which was extinguished last year, already represented around 1% of this mass of income.

In other words, Auxílio Brasil added just over 1 percentage point to the total amount of money available for consumption in the country.
