The defense of President Jair Bolsonaro said he should sue former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for his statements relating him to the murder of councilor Marielle Franco. Last week, Lula said at an event in Porto Alegre that “his people” are not shy about “having killed Marielle”. The PT did not mention the name of Jair Bolsonaro, but made references to a ruler.
The representation information was confirmed to the CNN by lawyer Caroline Freitas, who works in Bolsonaro’s campaign together with Tarcisio Vieira.
She said, however, that the campaign’s legal team assesses which specific action will be taken and whether it will only be within the scope of electoral justice.
Last month, the justices of the sixth class of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) denied the appeal presented by retired military police officer Ronnie Lessa, and maintained their trial in the jury court for the murder of Marielle Franco and her driver, Anderson Gomes.
The crime was committed four years ago, on March 14, 2018. The Public Ministry is still investigating the mastermind of the crime and, according to prosecutor Diogo Erthal, one of the hypotheses is that Rogério de Andrade is the offender.
THE CNN Brazil Erthal called the man, who is on the run, an “obvious suspect” in the crime, due to the connection he already had with Ronnie Lessa.
For the Public Ministry, Lessa acted as a kind of security for Andrade and was called by him to lead the expansion of the criminal organization’s business in the west of Rio de Janeiro a month after the councilwoman’s murder, in April 2018.
