Earlier this week, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) presented a criminal report in which he accused Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), of abuse of authority for alleged attacks on democracy, disrespect for the Constitution and contempt for human rights. and fundamental guarantees in the conduct of the court’s inquiry into fake news.
The action was rejected less than two days later by the rapporteur of the case in the STF, Minister Dias Toffoli, who considered that the facts described did not constitute a crime and that there was no reason to continue the process. Bolsonaro then filed a request for the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to investigate Moraes based on the same allegations.
