Bomb blast in Yemen – Five soldiers killed

At least five members of government forces were killed on Saturday when a bomb exploded in the southern province of Shabua Yemenias an official confirmed to the Xinhua agency.

According to the same img, The attackers, believed to be members of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), ambushed government vehicles in the western part of Champois, an area with hydrocarbon deposits. They detonated an improvised explosive device, killing at least five soldiers and injuring several others. The blast completely destroyed a military vehicle belonging to the newly formed Saudi-backed Shabua Defense Forces.

The Aden-based Southern Transitional Council (STC) said its forces defused another explosive device in Shabua.

Attacks against pro-government troops in the south have increased recently, about two months after a UN-brokered ceasefire expired on October 2.

Yemeni government forces, backed by the Saudi-led military coalition, have been launching sporadic strikes on AQAP militant hideouts, mainly in the mountains of Shabua and neighboring provinces.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) network has taken advantage of the years-long conflict between Yemen’s government and Iran-backed Houthi rebels to establish a presence in the war-torn country.
