Two people died and 11 were injured on Monday after a suicide bomber detonated explosives near the entrance to the Russian Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, police said.
Authorities also added that the attacker was shot dead by guards as he approached the gate.
“The suicide attacker before hitting the target was recognized and shot by Russian embassy guards,” Mawlawi Sabir, head of the police district where the attack took place, told Reuters.
There is still no information on deaths or injuries of Russian embassy staff.
Russia is one of the few countries to maintain an embassy in Kabul after the Taliban took over the country more than a year ago.
While Moscow does not officially recognize the Taliban government, they are in talks with officials about a deal to supply gasoline and other commodities.
