Bombing at Azovstal steelworks leaves 600 injured, says Mariupol mayor

Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boichenko said more than 600 people were injured in the Russian bombing that hit the makeshift hospital inside the Azovstal steelworks complex.

“You already know that they dropped bombs on the hospital, aerial bombs destroyed the hospital, and that is a sign of war crime, because the number of wounded before was 170, and now it is more than 600,” Boichenko said on Ukrainian television. .

The Azovstal factory was heavily bombed on Wednesday night, according to various reports. Ukrainian officials estimate that around 1,000 civilians are sheltered there, in addition to soldiers from the Ukrainian army.

The mayor also pointed out that the Russians have established four “filtering” centers in the city, where those who want to be removed from there are screened.

“If someone leaves the city and is, in one way or another, connected to the public service, to the municipal service, he receives the sad news that he is going to prison. These people are being held and tortured there,” he added. THE CNN cannot verify the mayor’s claims.

He also said that some families who wanted to leave for another part of Ukrainian territory were being forced to go to Russian-controlled areas.
