The businessman José Bonifácio de Oliveira Sobrinho known simply as Boni is honored in the documentary “Tribute “, from Globoplay, which premieres this Saturday (30). The date also marks the director’s 89th birthday.
The series brings together biographies of figures who marked the audiovisual sector in the country, paying homage to names such as Fernanda Montenegro , Zeze Motta , Lima Duarte , Lea Garcia , Laura Cardoso , Ary Fontoura and Manuel Carlos .
The episode honoring Boni recalls the director’s career from the beginning, on the radio, through advertising agencies and other broadcasters, until the moment he began working at TV Globo, in 1967.
In the content, Boni says that he received the mission from Roberto Marinho, journalist and founder of the company, to transform programming and boost the audience, alongside other young talents, such as directors Walter Clark and Daniel Filho.
“I asked Dr. Roberto one day why he trusted us. He said it like this: ‘When I was young, I always hung out with older people to learn from them. Now that I’m older, I want to learn from the young people”, he recalls.
Filho also participates in the episode, and, alongside Boni, narrates what it was like to give the soap operas the “face” of Brazil, making them the country’s cultural heritage and a global reference in teledramaturgy.
“On all the trips I took after the success of TV Globo around the world, my colleagues came to congratulate me on the quality of the text we had, on the creativity and the number of talented people”, says Boni.
The documentary also covers emblematic moments in television, such as the launch of Jornal Nacional in 1969, and the investment in different program formats for the public, from children’s programs to musicals and comedy.
The special episode features reports from actors such as Susana Vieira, Betty Faria, Glória Pires, Christiane Torloni, Elizabeth Savalla, Antônio Fagundes, Lima Duarte, Tony Ramos and Ary Fontoura, as well as presenters Xuxa and Angélica, comedians Hélio De La Peña and Bruno Mazzeo and journalists Cid Moreira and Léo Batista.
Director Jayme Monjardim and Amauri Soares, current executive director of TV Globo and Estúdios Globo, also explain how the honoree represents a watershed in the way of making television.
Tribute is a documentary series written by Isadora Wilkinson and Lalo Homrich and has artistic direction by Antonia Prado; directed by Matheus Malafaia; executive direction by Rafael Dragaud; and genre direction by Mariano Boni.
