José Bonifácio de Oliveira Nephew, known as Boni paid tribute Silvio Santos who died this Saturday (17), at the age of 93, due to bronchopneumonia. In an interview with SBT, the former director of Globo recalled when the presenter worked at the Rio de Janeiro broadcaster and revealed that he even lent money to the channel.
“We owe a lot to Silvio Santos at Globo. When we were in 5th place from Monday to Saturday, he was in the lead on Sunday, so he could use his program to make soap opera announcements, he would bring the cast of new soap operas, he even lent us money to pay the payroll, because we still had no liquidity,” he recalled.
Boni continued: “Imagine you… Senor Abravanel lending money to TV Globo without charging interest. Incredible thing!”
Boni also commented on the presenter’s success after leaving Globo. “He found a popular niche that came from his life story. The son of poor immigrants, he started out as a camel and knew the people like no one else. He was a great businessman.”
Other celebrities, such as Eliana, Maísa, Larissa Manoela, Ratinho and Carlos Alberto de Nóbrega, also paid their last respects to the presenter.
In a statement issued by the Abravanel family, there will be no wake since the presenter asked that “we not exploit his departure”. In a note, the family also mentions: “He liked to be celebrated in life and would like to be remembered with the joy with which he lived. He asked us to respect his wishes”.
