Book Biennial 2023 runs until Sunday in Rio de Janeiro; see the schedule

The 40th edition Rio Book Biennial which welcomes more than 300 Brazilian and foreign authors, runs until Sunday (10) and takes place at Riocentro, in Barra da Tijuca, west of the city.

In addition to the traditional autograph sessions, round tables, lectures and debates are scheduled that will address relevant topics from the literary and cultural universe.

Between this Friday (8) and Sunday (1), the Book Biennial should welcome names such as actress Claudia Abreu, Monja Cohen and authors Thalita Rebouças, Vitor Di Castro and Luiz Antonio Simas.

Audiences of all ages have their space at the biennial. A wing dedicated to children’s literature will present young readers with stories, interactive sessions and the presence of authors specialized in captivating curious minds.

Held by GL events Exhibitions in partnership with the National Union of Book Editors (SNEL), the literature, culture and entertainment festival will have a total of 200 hours of programming for the whole family.

Tickets cost between BRL 19.50 (half ticket) and BRL 39.00 (full ticket) per day and can be purchased on the Eventim website or at Pavilhão das Artes and Pavilhão 4 at Riocentro and at Estádio Nilton Santos – Engenhão .

For those interested, Riocentro is located at Avenida Salvador Allende, 6555 – Barra da Tijuca – Rio de Janeiro, accessible through gates B and H. Opening hours are:

  • Friday from 9am to 9pm;
  • Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm;
  • Gates open: 1 hour before the start of the event.

Age classification: 14 years old – minors under 14 can only enter with a parent or legal guardian. For children up to 1 (one) meter tall, entry is free.

It is worth mentioning that gastronomy was included in the menu of the Bienal, which will feature food trucks for the first time, with a convivial environment around the lake.

How to get to the Biennial?

city ​​buses

At gate H of Riocentro, accessible from Avenida Olof Palm, the following bus lines pass:

  • Line 342;
  • Line 368;
  • Line 613.

Gate B, accessible from Avenida Salvador Allende, will be serviced by the BRT system, through the Rio Centro station.

BRT

The City Hall announced a special operation for the modal. On weekends and on the September 7th holiday, the BRT will have a special service (SE010), operating from 9 am to 9 pm, departing from Terminal Paulo da Portela, in Madureira, to Terminal Recreio, with a stop at Olof Palme station , near the entrance to the Bienal.

On weekdays, buses leave every 10 minutes on lines 50 (Jardim Oceânico x Centro Olímpico), 51 (Recreio x Vila Militar) and 41 (Madureira x Recreio – Expresso).

Boarding for the Bienal do Livro will have special signage for the public traveling by BRT, with MOBI operators directing passengers.

Transfer

There will be a transfer service, with trips every hour, with boarding points in Botafogo, Copacabana, Del Castilho, Nova América, Tijuca, Recreio, Niterói and the Metropolitan Region. The service will cost BRL 60 and includes a round trip from the event.

Car, motorcycle, vans and buses

It is possible to go to the event by car, motorcycle, van and even bus, since the complex has parking.

  • Car, motorcycle and vans: R$ 32.00 – period of 12 hours;
  • Buses and trucks: R$ 90.00 – period of 12 hours.

Planned interdictions

During the event, CET-Rio will work with a team of 50 traffic operators to maintain fluidity, curb irregular parking, organize intersections and guide pedestrians and drivers.

On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 9th and 10th of September, Rua Pedro Calmon will be closed between Avenida Salvador Allende and Rua Abrahão Jabour, from 8 am to 11 pm.

CET recommends that drivers in the region use the Avenida das Américas/Avenida Ayrton Senna route for the connection to the Yellow Line, due to the possible overload in vehicle circulation on Salvador Allende and Ambassador Abelardo Bueno avenues.

What are the spaces of the Biennial?

There will be more than 300 publishers distributed in three pavilions. The total area of ​​the event is 90 thousand square meters, including the spaces that will house the entire official program of the 21st Book Biennial.

  • Orange Pavilion: Children’s Space A Great Reading Adventure; Literary Boulevard and Food Court;
  • Blue Pavilion: Keyword and Autograph Square;
