A Book Fair begins its third edition at Charles Miller square, in front of Pacaembu stadium, this Saturday (29), and goes until the following Sunday (7).
The free event will be the longest yet, with more than 150 guests who will take part in debates and conversations about literature — which will also be available on the literary festival’s YouTube channel for those who are unable to attend in person.
During the weekends, distinguished guests will talk about literature, Portuguese language, music, Afro-Brazilian culture, anthropology, science, psychoanalysis, Brazilian history, poetry, food, visual arts, illustration, humor, diplomacy, culture, environment, literary translation, education, journalism and other subjects.
During the weekdays, between July 1st and 5th, the festival offers a program focused entirely on education and teachers, the so-called Praça de Aula, with debates on racism and anti-racism in schools, the climate crisis and environmental racism, indigenous and quilombola knowledge in the classroom, the history of Brazil and the Portuguese language.
One of the fair’s purposes is to occupy public space, bringing hundreds of people to the 15,000 square meter area that is normally used as parking in front of the stadium.
Guest authors
The invited authors of the official program must perform on two stages with free access: the Armando Nogueira auditorium, at the Football Museum, and the Palco da Praça, set up in the middle of the street.
This year’s edition will feature important names in national literature, such as Ivan Angelo, Reinaldo Moraes and Maria Adelaide Amaral, who are highlights of the fiction program.
Also present will be names such as Tatiana Salem Levy, José Henrique Bortoluci, Adelaide Ivánova, Gregorio Duvivier, Bruna Beber, Mar Becker, Julia de Souza, Eliana Alves Cruz, Nara Vidal, Odorico Leal, Joca Reiners Terron, Caetano W. Galindo and Pablo LC Casella, Marcelo Rubens Paiva, Lilia Guerra, Reinaldo Moraes, Natalia Timerman, Iara Biderman, Eliane Robert Moraes, Sérgio Vaz and Mel Duarte.
Furthermore, Stênio Gardel, winner of the National Book Award in the United States, will also be present on the first day of the festival.
Other guests include cook and writer Rita Lobo, law professor Renan Quinalha, former football player and sports commentator Walter Casagrande, activist Rodrigo Hübner Mendes, singer-songwriter Nando Reis, artist Lenora de Barros, diplomat Rubens Ricupero, samba singer Martinho da Vila, linguist Marcos Bagno, mathematician Marcelo Viana and psychoanalyst Christian Dunker.
International guests are also present at the festival, such as Argentineans Camila Sosa Villada, Betina González, Claudia Piñeiro, Michel Nieva and Camila Fabbri.
Rio Grande do Sul
The Book Fair will feature a table exclusively for authors from Rio Grande do Sul, moderated by Titi Müller, in homage to Porto Alegre, which is still recovering from the floods that occurred in May.
In addition, there will also be a collection of books that will be donated with the aim of replenishing the collections of school and community libraries in Rio Grande do Sul affected by the rains.
