Boris Johnson and Bolsonaro talk by phone about war in Ukraine

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, and the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), held a telephone conversation this Thursday (3) to discuss the war in Ukraine – which has been going on for eight days.

According to a spokesman for Johnson’s office, the two leaders “agreed to call for an urgent ceasefire and that peace must prevail”. THE CNN sought the Planalto Palace and awaits a response.

Also according to the British spokesman, Boris Johnson reinforced to Bolsonaro that the actions of Russian forces in Ukraine are “disgusting”.

“The prime minister added that innocent civilians are being killed and cities destroyed, and the world cannot allow the president’s aggression [Vladimir] Putin succeed,” he added.

Boris Johnson warned Bolsonaro that Brazil was a “vital” ally during World War II, and the Brazilian president’s voice is “crucial” at this time of crisis. “The UK and Brazil need to demand an end to violence,” added the prime minister.

The two leaders agreed on the “importance of global stability”.

“The prime minister said he looks forward to working closely with Bolsonaro on key bilateral issues such as security and trade,” a Downing Street spokesperson concluded.
