Boris Johnson: Apologizing for Crown Parties on Downing Street

The Prime Minister of Britain Boris Johnson apologized “unreservedly” today to parliament for violating the rules for him coronavirus when he organized a gathering on the occasion of his birthdayafter the police fined him, last week, for this party.

Fines were imposed on Johnson and Treasury Secretary Risi Sunak as the House of Commons adjourned its meetings due to the Easter holidays. Deputies will be asked to vote on Thursday whether Johnson should be investigated for misleading the House because he has repeatedly said he followed the pandemic rules.

“I take this opportunity, during the first available sitting (of the Parliament) to reiterate my wholehearted apology to the Parliament (of the Communities). “As soon as I received the warning, I realized the pain and the anger and said that people have the right to expect something better from the prime minister,” Johnson said, adding that he had not deliberately misled lawmakers.

The prime minister added that he had not initially realized that the rally on Downing Street in June 2020 violated the rules.

“It did not occur to me then, nor later, that a meeting in the Cabinet, just before a crucial meeting on Covid-19’s counter-strategy, could amount to a breach of the rules. “I repeat that it was my mistake and I unreservedly apologize,” he added.
