LAST UPDATE: 15:43
The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologized today after the video that was released and which shows his staff joking and laughing for a party on Downing Street during the lockdown last Christmas when such events were banned.
Johnson said he was outraged to see the video.
“I unequivocally apologize for the insult it has caused across the country and I apologize for the impression it has made,” Johnson told Parliament, adding that disciplinary action would be taken if rules were found to have been breached.
“But I repeat… that I have repeatedly stated since these allegations were made, that no party has taken place and that Covid rules have not been violated.”
Johnson attacks the opposition
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today called on opposition politicians not to play political games regarding the measures for COVID-19, after the release of the video.
“I know that the consequence that is trying to exist (is) that the case we are now investigating in some way should undermine public confidence in the measures we are taking. But I can tell him (…) that I believe it is “It’s a serious mistake to try to play political games on this issue,” Johnson said in response to a question from opposition Labor leader Kir Starmer.
“I do not think the people really want to see confidence in these measures undermined,” Johnson said in a statement to parliament.
“I will continue to work and I believe that this (…) is what needs to be done and I think it is very sad that when people need to hear clear words from their officials, from politicians, the opposition parties are trying to “Blur the waters for events or non-events of last year”, he noted.
