Boris Johnson: his luxury Caribbean vacation investigated

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is the subject of an investigation into the luxurious vacation he spent in the Caribbean after his victory in the legislative elections at the end of 2019, said on Monday the authority responsible for ensuring compliance with parliamentary rules on his website.

The conservative leader and his fiancee Carrie Symonds had spent the New Year on the private island of Mosquito, in the Caribbean archipelago of the Grenadines.

Holidays worth 17,400 euros

In his declaration of interest as an MP, Boris Johnson had indicated that the vacation, worth 15,000 pounds (17,400 euros at the current rate), had been offered to him by businessman David Ross, a Conservative Party donor.

But David Ross had sown confusion by denying, at first, having advanced such a sum, before going back on his statements through the intermediary of his spokesperson to affirm that it was about an “advantage in nature “.

Downing Street had previously pointed out that everything had been declared in the form.

The revelation comes as Boris Johnson is entangled in several cases that have highlighted the very close links between power and private interests, including the luxurious renovation of his apartment in Downing Street, at the center of an investigation by the British Election Commission .

Despite these scandals, his Conservative Party emerged stronger from the local elections on May 6 in England, delighting Labor Hartlepool, one of their historic strongholds in the north-east of England.
