The Russian government is not interested in negotiating a ceasefire in Ukraine at the moment, as its army has not achieved its military objectives, said today the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell.
“Right now, Russia does not want to sit down and negotiate anything: what it wants is to occupy the territory,” Borrell said in an interview with Spanish television network TVE.
“He wants to encircle the coast to the border with Moldova and cut off Ukraine from the sea. He will really want to negotiate when he has secured a position of power.”
The European Union and its allies will continue to send military assistance to the Ukrainian army, Borrell said.
“It’s important because everything will be decided within the next 12 days. What will determine history is the ability of the Ukrainians to resist.”
