Borrell on war in Ukraine: There can be no impunity for war crimes

The EU condemns the “continuing indiscriminate and illegal” bombing of civilians and civilian infrastructure by the Russian armed forces, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said in a written statement, noting that Ukraine has been hit by the most intense rocket attacks.

Mr Borrell spoke of “particularly serious attacks in recent days in eastern and southern Ukraine, particularly in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, in Sheverodonetsk, in Lisikhansk and in Popasna.”

“Major cities, including Kharkov, continue to be indiscriminately attacked, causing further civilian casualties and infrastructure damage,” he said, adding that “attacks in Lviv and other cities in western Ukraine show that no part of the country is escaping Kremlin “.

The EU High Representative stressed that “there can be no impunity for war crimes”.

“The EU praises the strength, courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people,” he said, noting European solidarity, including through the delivery of military equipment. Finally, Josep Borrell again calls on Russia to cease hostilities and withdraw its forces and military equipment from Ukraine.
