“We are concerned about what might happen in the region,” Borel said after the foreign ministers’ teleconference. “We are afraid that Russia will not stop in Ukraine and Russian influence may begin to operate in neighboring countries.” He added that Poland had offered to act as a logistics hub for arms shipments to Ukraine.

At the same time, EU member states agreed to release € 450 million in arms supplies from the EU to Ukraine.

“This is the first time in history that the EU will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons to an attacking country,” said Borrell, shortly after the conclusion of an emergency teleconference by the EU foreign ministers.

The 450m euros will be used by the EU to buy weapons and hand them over to the Ukrainian armed forces to resist the Russian invasion. In addition, the “27” agreed to release 50 million euros for the supply of fuel to Ukraine.
