The EU’s opposition to returning to spheres of influence was reiterated by the EU High Representative, Josep Borrellattending the Meeting of his Ministers of Defense NATO.
He himself stated, according to the APE-MPE, that “This is another opportunity to show the strong transatlantic unity and strong cooperation between the EU and NATO, “Especially in these turbulent days when we are facing Russian threats on the Ukrainian border.”
“We are on the side of Ukraine, we are opposed to the return of spheres of influence to Europe,” he said, stressing the importance of transatlantic unity.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Andrize Melnik calls on German government not to make “bad compromise on our heads”referring to a statement by Chancellor Olaf Soltz that Ukraine’s possible membership in NATO is “not on the agenda” at the moment.
Mr. Malnik, speaking in the Funke Group newspapers, stressed that “It is not just a matter of preventing a Russian war in Europe”, but also not to have agreements, which will cost the Ukrainians their future.
