At least 16 people have been killed in floods and landslides in Bosnia and Herzegovina after torrential rains hit the country, taking residents by surprise. A few hours after an initial death toll of 14 was announced, police spokesman Ludevit Maritsa confirmed that two more people had been found dead. “It was scary, absolutely scary,” Emir Arfajan, a resident of the village of Donya Yablanica, which was worst hit by the floods, told AFP. “Many cubic meters of water and thousands of tons of stones fell on the village.
