The classic news that can be defined as a bolt from the blue: Bottega Veneta and its (until now, at least) creative director Daniel lee announce their joint decision to end their collaboration.

At the creative helm of the Maison since 1 July 2018, Lee, with his innovative and surprising creativity, has brought the Kering Group brand back to the Olympus of desire, contributing decisively to the new state of grace that Bottega Veneta is experiencing today. Much desired accessories, an already iconic macro weave, excellent testimonials: the designer’s recipe has proven to be as simple as it is effective (and profitable for the brand’s coffers).

Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta, said: «I thank Daniel for his dedication to the Maison over the past three years. It provided Bottega Veneta with a new perspective and a new sense of modernity, while respecting the 50-year legacy of the brand. The remarkable growth of the brand in the last three years testifies to the success of its creative work ».
Francois-Henri Pinault, President and CEO of Kering, added: «I am very grateful to Daniel for bringing his passion and energy to Bottega Veneta. I would like to personally thank him for the unique chapter he wrote in the long history of Bottega Veneta ».

around you, the thirty-five-year-old designer declared: «My time in Bottega Veneta was an incredible experience. I am grateful to have worked with such an exceptional and talented team and will forever be grateful to all who have been part of creating our vision. Thanks to Francois-Henri Pinault for his support and the opportunity to be part of the history of Bottega Veneta ».

A news, as we said, completely unexpected. Which some read as a possible indirect reaction to the imminent debut with her eponymous brand of Phoebe Philo, brilliant and idolized designer – her latest creative direction was for Céline – for which Lee worked as an assistant. Considering the affinity of vision and taste of the two, many wanted to read in transparency the fear of a frontal confrontation between former colleagues. Only inferences.

It is true that the Maison will soon announce the new creative structure. It is to be hoped, however, that Lee will not remain holding hands for too long. Fashion needs its genius.
