Boy dies after landslide caused by rains in Paraty

The boy Dorqueu Campos, 12 years old, a survivor of the collapse of a house in Paraty, on the coast of the Costa Verde Fluminense, died after suffering a cardiac arrest this Friday afternoon (15).

The boy had been hospitalized since April 3, at the municipal hospital Adão Pereira Nunes, in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense.

Dorqueu was the only survivor of the family rescued from the rubble by the Fire Department on 2 April. At the time, the house where he was with his mother and six other siblings was swept away in the landslide caused by the strong storm that hit the region.

According to the city hall, Dorqueu had brain death around 12 pm this Friday. Later, at 6:17 pm, the patient suffered irreversible cardiac arrest and died. According to the note, the boy “was admitted to the Pediatric ICU of the unit, with a very serious clinical condition and dependent on mechanical ventilation”.

In early April, heavy rains hit the Costa Verde region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, where the city of Paraty is located. The house where the boy and his family lived was in an isolated area of ​​the city, in a region of preserved forest, according to the mayor of Paraty, Luciano Vidal (MDB-RJ).

In addition to Dorqueu, seven other family members also died in the tragedy: Lucimar, his mother, João, 2 years old, Estevão, 5 years old, Yasmim, 8 years old, Jasmin, 10 years old, Luciano, 15 years old and Lucimara, 17 years. With that, the number of deaths in the state of Rio de Janeiro caused by the storm at the beginning of the month rose to 21.
