BP has acquired the electric vehicle charging company AMPLY

Oil giant BP Plc announced on Tuesday that it had acquired US electric vehicle charger AMPLY Power for an unspecified price, stepping up its efforts to reduce emissions and focus on cleaner forms of energy.

BP said it plans to double its profits from customer service and mobility by 2030 and increase its global charging network sixfold to 70,000 in the same period.

California-based AMPLY Power was founded in 2018 and serves fleets of vehicles such as trucks, buses and school buses, trucks and light vehicles.

“BP aims to accelerate the electrification of the fast-growing vehicle fleet sector, which is the key to reducing emissions from transportation – which accounts for most of the greenhouse gas emissions in the United States,” said Richard. Bartlett, Senior Vice President, BP Future Mobility and Solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, AMPLY Power will continue to operate autonomously, as part of BP’s global business portfolio.

Last week, BP announced plans to set up a large-scale green hydrogen plant in the north-east of England, powered by wind, hydroelectric and solar power, to help Britain break free of fossil fuels.
