BR do Mar: Senate approves project to encourage coastal shipping

O Senado approved this Thursday the project that creates the call BR do Mar, alluding to a way maroptimal, to encourage coastal shipping, but the text will have to return to the Chambermarfor ter yesdo alterado seine hairdores.

According todo the rapporteur, senador Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN), the main change foreseen in the proposal facilitates the expansion of cabotage operations and the entry of new interestsdos in the sector.

“The possibilities of EBN (Companies BrSailboats) to charter in time and bareboat, in some cases, withoutbrity of owning their own vessels. This change represents a great innovation, which will allow the increase of the fleet on the coast brasileira”, said the senador, in the opinion.

Prates also explained, in the report, that it will be alloweddo to EBN to set up a wholly owned foreign subsidiary, in order to balancebrto reduce costs and regularity do service.

“O doin the cargo area, you need to be confident and sure that it will be delivered at the port and will reach its final destination, within the waiting timedo. For this, there must be constant supply do service (vessel availability) and price predictability dos freights. Otherwise, the boarddor will have no new marketdos as an alternative and will maintain transport by rodoroads that, despite being more costly, are reliable and stable”.

The project of BR do Mar was editeddo with the intention of improving coastal shipping, but there are those who warn of the impact it could have on the activity dos truck drivers.

Proponents of the proposal consider, however, that they would not harmdos, as they would be responsible for carrying and taking loads dos ports, with shorter freights and more pays offdores.
