Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s 2016 fight: FBI report reveals new facts

Angelina Jolie accused Brad Pitt of hurting her and verbally abusing her children during a heated encounter aboard a private jet in 2016, according to an FBI report provided to CNN by a source.

In the report, which was released to both parties as a result of a freedom of information request or act, the actress told agents that while traveling back to California with Pitt and their six children after a two-week vacation, her then husband was drinking when he told her to accompany him to the back of the plane after he had a tense interaction with one of their children.

Pitt’s name is redacted in the report, but she refers to her husband several times – he was married to Jolie at the time of the alleged incident.

Once there, Angelina said, they were in a bathroom that had a privacy door that didn’t allow her children to see them, and she claimed that Pitt “grabbed her by the head”, “grabbed her by the shoulders”, shook her, pushed her into the bathroom wall and was yelling various things at her, including “‘You’re f***ing this family,'” according to the report.

Pitt has not been arrested or charged in connection with the incident after the FBI concluded an investigation in 2016.

“In response to allegations made following a flight within the jurisdiction of United States special aircraft that landed in Los Angeles carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his sons, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not proceed with the investigation. No charges have been filed,” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said in a statement to CNN at the time.

CNN reached out to representatives for Pitt and Jolie for comment.

“All parties have had this information for almost six years and it has been used in previous court cases. There’s nothing new here and it serves no purpose other than being a media stunt intended to generate more pain,” a source close to Pitt said of the report coming to light now.

According to the FBI report, Jolie told investigators that two of her children (whose names are not evident in the report, but who were minors at the time), “were outside crying and asked, ‘Are you okay, Mom? ‘”

Pitt allegedly yelled in response, “’No, Mom is not well. She’s ruining this family. She’s crazy,’” the report states.

According to Jolie, this prompted one of her children to respond, “’It’s not her, it’s you, you p***’”, which infuriated Pitt. Angelina claimed she saw him run towards one of the children “as if he was going to attack”, and at that moment she said she held Pitt with a chokehold, and he tried to free himself by throwing himself backwards, pushing her into the chairs behind them. , says the report.

Jolie claimed in the report that she suffered back and elbow injuries and shared a photo of her elbow injury with the FBI.

Black and white photocopies of the photos are included in the report, as well as handwritten pages provided by Jolie, allegedly from her children, containing descriptions of the alleged incident. Handwritten pages are substantially redacted.

Jolie also said in the report that Pitt continued drinking during the trip, and later poured beer on her. After they arrived in Los Angeles, the pair had a physical altercation and she said Pitt prevented her and the kids from getting off the plane for 20 minutes.

In addition to her back and elbow, the report states that Jolie said she also suffered a burn to her left hand. A photo of the wound is included in the report. She was asked about a reported scratch on Pitt, and Jolie said in the report that it could have been caused by her.

According to the report, after reviewing a statement of probable cause related to the incident, a representative of the U.S. Attorney “discussed the merits of this investigation with the agent on the case.” [FBI]”.

“It was agreed by all parties that criminal charges in this case would not be brought due to a number of factors,” the report reads.

CNN has contacted the US Attorney’s Office for comment.

When contacted by CNN via email, an FBI spokesperson responded: “No charges have been made in connection with this matter and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Jolie filed for divorce shortly after the incident and although the dissolution of her marriage was granted in 2019, her legal battle over ownership and custody of her minor children has continued over the years.

In 2020, Jolie told “Vogue India” that she split from Pitt for the sake of her children.

“I separated for the sake of my family,” she said. “It was the right decision. I continue to focus on healing them.”

Pitt told “GQ” in 2017 that he stopped drinking after “drinking” too much last year.

In a June 2022 interview with British “GQ”, he talked about finding more peace recently.

“I’ve always felt very alone in my life,” he told the publication. “Alone growing up as a child, alone even here, and the feeling I had until recently, when I was hugged by my friends and family.”
