Bradley Cooper tries again. After the debut behind the camera for A star is born with Lady Gaga, the artist returns to direct for the Netflix biopic Master. The story, which he directs, produces, writes and interprets, revolves around the figure of Leonard Bernstein, American conductor, composer and pianist, symbol of the twentieth century, nominated for an Oscar for the soundtrack of Fronte del porto.
From the first images you can see Cooper’s incredible metamorphosis.
The film, also produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, also stars Carey Mulligan as the woman who has been by his side for 30 years, Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.
The story traces the first meeting in 1946 at a party and then continues through two engagements, a 25-year marriage and three children (Jamie, Alexander and Nina). During a separation from his wife Bernstein went to live with a clarinet player he fell in love with (Matt Bomer), but then he always came back to her, who took care of him until the end, which came in 1990 for lung cancer. The artist’s homosexuality has never been made official and public but relationships with other men have always been known.
A brilliant existence, at times tormented, full of successes and full of satisfactions: Bradley Cooper’s intent is to bring her back to life through lights and shadows, with the great humanity and sensitivity that distinguishes him.
