Before the official announcement of the principled new crossover Kia Sportage, rumors about which have been hovering over the past few months, photos of the car captured on the assembly line appeared on the Web.
Photos confirm that the car will receive brand new head optics and large LED daytime running lights. The photos did not show the rear of the car, which should also receive new lights.
The new Sportage is expected to share many details with the new Hyundai Tucson, including the 3rd generation platform and powertrain. This means that for the first time we will get a true hybrid in the Sportage line, as well as a Plug-in Hybrid.
Compared to the new Tucson, the interior layout will be completely different. While the Tucson has a more traditional center layout with separate displays, the interior of the new Sportage will have a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen combined into a single unit. Curved panoramic display design will be similar to the recently launched Kia K8
The new Sportage is expected to be available with different engines depending on the markets. In Europe, there will be 1.6- and 2-liter diesel engines and a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline hybrid.
The official announcement of the new Kia Sportage is expected in June.
