Brasília’s hotel sector estimates 90% occupancy for Lula’s inauguration

The Union of Hotels, Bars, Restaurants and Similar of Brasília (Sindhobar) estimates that at the turn of the year, due to the presidential inauguration, about 90% of hotel beds in the capital will be occupied. According to the entity, reservations have increased in recent days. In the three largest luxury hotel chains there are no more vacancies between December 31st and January 1st.

“Events of this nature bring together many heads of state. This, in itself, generates a lot of movement in hotels”, explains Jael Antônio da Silva, president of Sindhobar.

In hotels with available rooms, the average daily rate is R$1,800 for two people. In the central region, few leave this price range. In places further away from Praça dos Três Poderes, where the inauguration will take place, the cost of double accommodation has varied between R$500 and R$800.

Brasília has 400 hotels, which offer approximately 20 thousand beds, according to Sindhobar.

If compared to other possessions, the sector estimates that the demand for accommodation this year should be similar to what was registered the first time Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) took power, in 2003. “In the following inaugurations, the volume of people staying was lower. In the last one, for example, there seemed to be a lot of people on the streets, but we in the sector noticed that there were many residents of Brasília”, completes Jael.

If the parameter is sporting events, the president of the union estimates that the demand for hotels will be similar to that of the Brazilian University Games, held recently in Brasília. “Practically all the rooms were occupied. The difference now is the public profile”, he adds.
