Brave’s privacy browser has added support for the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) decentralized storage protocol.
Brave users will now be able to access data stored in IPFS without any problems. To do this, insert a link starting with ipfs: // into the address bar.
Users have two options for accessing content – using public gateways in IPFS or by starting their own node. The second option, thanks to the efforts of the Brave developers, is quick and easy.
Brave’s developers emphasize that IPFS support gives users a “deeper experience” by accessing additional content through IPFS. In addition, support for a decentralized storage area network will reduce server support costs for content providers.
“Integration of the open IPFS network is an important step towards a more transparent, decentralized and reliable Internet,” wrote Brian Bondy, CTO and co-founder of Brave.
In mid-2020, a fork of the Brave browser appeared under the name Braver, which later changed its name to Bold.
