Brave Search has Goggles – honest search without hidden priorities

Many users are concerned that conventional search engines can be biased, so they turn to less popular search engines, such as Brave Software. Initially, she created a confidential browser of the same name, and then built her own search engine into it. Now the search engine has a Goggles feature that allows the user to set their own ranking criteria. For example, in a query, you can shift the focus to blogs, and not to large news outlets.

Goggles is currently in beta version of Brave Search. There you can create your own criteria or use someone else’s by simply doing a search and clicking the Goggles button. Pre-made templates are handy when you don’t have time to fine-tune your search results. The community can create such templates and share them with other users.

Brave positions this tool as an alternative to the search algorithms of Google and Microsoft, which often use priorities in the display of search results at their discretion. The company claims that Goggles can counter the bias inherent in the big players in the search engine market. However, this function, in addition to the pros, has its drawbacks. The main disadvantage of Goggles is that the user is to a certain extent in an information bubble, that is, in the search results, he sees only the content that is consistent with his views. Therefore, the function must be used wisely.
