Brazil: 132 deaths, almost 5,000 cases in 24 hours

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 132 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 4,918 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed.

Thanks to the population vaccination campaign, the health crisis in the country has been escalating in recent months, as in the rest of Latin America.

With 611,478 dead after the new coronavirus pandemic broke out in its territory, Latin America, the largest country with a population of 212 million, records the second heaviest death toll on the planet in absolute terms, behind only the United States.

Laboratory-confirmed cases have reached 21,965,684; Brazil remains third in the world in terms of the number of reported viral infections, behind the United States and India, at least according to official government data.
