A total of 14 people were killed on Saturday in Brazilwhen a plane crashed in Barcelós, a tourist town in the Brazilian Amazon state, as Governor Wilson Lima announced.
Twelve passengers and two crew members died in the crash, Mr Lima said via X (formerly Twitter).
Barcelós is about 400 kilometers north of the state capital Manaus.
“I deeply regret the death of 12 passengers and two crew members, victims of the plane crash in Barcelona on Saturday. Our teams have worked from the start to provide the necessary support. To families and friends [των θυμάτων] sending my solidarity and prayers.”
Asked about this by AFP, local authorities did not provide further details about the accident. No one survivedaccording to the Brazilian press.
According to information from the news site G1, the aircraft was an EMB-110, a twin-engine turboprop manufactured by the Brazilian aviation industry Embraer. His flight from Manaus to Barcelona would normally take 90 minutes.
Barselous, on the Chios Negros, a tributary of the Amazon, is surrounded by national parks.
According to some Brazilian media, US citizens were among the victims, but this has not been officially confirmed so far. According to a report by the UOL news website, which cited the state’s security minister, Vinicius Almeida, the passengers were Brazilians traveling to the area to take part in competitive fishing.
