A man in Brazil kept his wife and two sons chained in a dungeon in his Rio de Janeiro home for 17 years.
Dehydrated and exhausted from hunger, the victims were taken to a hospital.

In photos published by local media, the two sons, although aged 19 and 22, look like children or teenagers.
According to dailymail.co.uk the mother told police that she and her sons may have gone through as many as three 24-hour fasts while suffering constant physical and psychological abuse. As she said, her husband of 23 years threatened her that only when she was dead would she leave the hell he was living in.

Authorities arrived at the home following an anonymous tip. According to neighbors, the man had acquired the nickname “DJ” because he always played the music, probably to drown out the cries for help of his wife and sons.

The perpetrator faces charges of kidnapping, torture and abuse.
