Brazil Aid starts with uncertainty about resources and possible effects

The new Auxílio Brasil, a social program that replaces Bolsa Família from this month onwards, will begin to be paid to eligible families to receive the benefit as of this Wednesday (17th). The average value of payments underwent an adjustment, and the expectation is that it will be expanded by the end of the year, as well as the number of families served. But, for that, the government still depends on the approval of the PEC dos Precatório in Congress or on an alternative that guarantees space in the Budget for the financing of the program.

In this episode of and there is more, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of the changes announced by the federal government for the launch of Auxílio Brasil. The reformulation of the cash transfer program raises doubts about the direction of the country’s social protection network, at a time of fall in Brazilian average income and given the proximity of the 2022 election campaign. To address the possible social and political effects of the new Auxílio Brasil, the researcher Fernando Burgos, professor of public management at FGV, and the policy analyst at FGV, participate in this program.
