Brazil always condemned invasion of Ukraine, says foreign minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, said, in an interview with CNN this Friday (24th), that “Brazil has always condemned the invasion of Ukraine”, which completes one year today.

On Thursday (23), the United Nations (UN) approved a resolution calling for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. Brazil voted in favor of the resolution and called for an end to hostilities in Eastern Europe.

“In addition to condemning [a invasão]a step forward is taken in the sense of opening the doors to a possible peace negotiation”, evaluated the Brazilian Chancellor.

“We deplore the fact that there has already been a whole year of war with deaths, destruction and impacts all over the world”, added Mauro Vieira.

In the minister’s evaluation, the United Nations Security Council needs to be reformed, since its composition “no longer reflects the number of countries and the geopolitics of the time in which it was created”.

“All international organizations need updating and need to be revitalized, such as, for example, the World Trade Organization (WTO)”, defended the minister.
