Brazil breaks record in soy crop harvest in 2021

In 2021, Brazil harvested the largest soybean crop in its history, with almost 139 million tons. The result was a record 86 million tonnes exported and nearly 48 million tonnes processed.

As for 2022, the projection is not as positive as the previous year. The estimate is for a further decline in domestic soybean oil sales to just over 7 million tons, the same level as in 2019.

In an interview with CNN, the chief economist of the Brazilian Association of the Vegetable Oil Industry (Abiove), Daniel Almaral, spoke about the expectation for this year and highlighted the difficulties involving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. “The war affects the commercialization and the situation of supply and demand for soy.”

“This war is also affecting the availability of fertilizers. So, in this sense, it is very important that Brazil seeks mechanisms with other countries so that fertilizers continue to have their logistical and financial flows preserved, so that Brazilian agriculture continues to receive these very important inputs”, he concluded.
