Fourteen buses and two police patrol cars were set on fire in the early hours of Sunday morning in the town of Manaus, in Brazil, in retaliation for the death of one drug dealer, announced the local government.
Bus services were suspended until police reinforcements were deployed in the city. Manaus is a city in the Amazon that has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Amazon Secretary of Security Luismar Bonates said in a statement that the order to set the vehicles on fire came from the prison where drug trafficking gang leaders are being held.
Vehicles were also set on fire in two neighboring cities.
