The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil reported in a note this Thursday morning (24) that it follows with “grave concern” the Russian attacks on Ukraine that have been taking place since the early hours of this Thursday (24).
“Brazil calls for the immediate suspension of hostilities and the start of negotiations leading to a diplomatic solution to the issue, based on the Minsk Accords and that takes into account the legitimate security interests of all parties involved and the protection of the civilian population. ”, says the note from the federal agency.
According to the statement, Brazil, as a member of the UN Security Council (United Nations), follows the discussions in all parties in search of a peaceful solution to the conflict “in line with the Brazilian diplomatic tradition and in the defense of solutions guided by the United Nations Charter and international law”.

After weeks of tension, Russia attacked Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning. A military operation in the breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine, explosions and sirens were heard in several cities across the country.

In his speech before the attack, Putin justified the action by saying that Russia could not “tolerate threats from Ukraine”. Putin urged Ukrainian soldiers to “put down your weapons and go home”. The Russian leader further stated that he will not accept any kind of foreign interference.
