Brazil cannot survive without fertilizers and awaits Russian ships, says Bolsonaro

Speaking about the war in Ukraine, President Jair Bolsonaro said this Tuesday (26th) that Brazil has adopted “a position of balance in this conflicting issue, but it cannot survive without fertilizers”.

Bolsonaro highlighted the government’s “balanced” position and the visit he made to Russia shortly before the start of the conflict.

“At the moment, we have 27 Russian ships sailing to Brazil to bring fertilizers,” he said.

The president spoke at the opening of the “March to Brasília in Defense of Municipalities”, promoted by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM), in Brasília.

The event also had the participation of the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, and the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco.

In his speech, Bolsonaro also commented on the visit to Brazil of the director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

“A few days ago I received the president of the WTO. She came to ask us to export more food, because the consequences of the war and the pandemic are being felt all over the world. Inflation and lack of food”, said the president.

He says that he explained that Brazil does not have stocks and, therefore, cannot export more. “But I asked her, given the influence she has on the world, not to allow the flow of fertilizers to be cut off. Not only for Brazil, but for the whole world”, he added.
