Brazil: Daily decline in coronavirus deaths continues

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced today Thursday that in the previous 24 hours 188 patients with COVID-19 succumbed and 15,300 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.

With 610,224 dead since the outbreak of the new coronavirus in its territory, Latin America, the largest country in the world with 212 million inhabitants, records the second heaviest death toll in the world in absolute numbers, behind only the United States. The laboratory confirmed cases have now reached a total of 21,924,598.

Brazil remains third in the world in terms of the number of reported viral infections, behind the US and India, at least according to official data.

However, as vaccination finally progressed, the rolling average of deaths per 24 hours in the last 14 days fell below 240, from the nearly 3,000 that reached the peak of the pandemic in April.
