Brazil donates 500,000 doses of vaccine against Covid-19 to Paraguay

The Ministry of Health announced, this Thursday (23), that Brazil will donate 500,000 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 to Paraguay. The agreement was signed by the ministers of Health of both countries, Marcelo Queiroga and Julio Borba, during a meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, held on Wednesday (22).

According to the folder, the measure is part of the strategies for expanding access to vaccines by countries, especially in South America.

“Receive this gesture from Brazil as proof of the friendship, solidarity and cooperation that exist between our countries and the firm commitment to improve the health condition of our population,” said Queiroga when addressing the Paraguayan minister.

According to the Paraguayan Ministry of Health, the country has registered 464,793 cases and 16,588 deaths from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Donation of vaccines

On Monday (20), the Ministry of Health informed that 10 million vaccines against Covid-19 will be donated by the Brazilian government to low-income countries. The measure will be implemented through the initiative of the Covax Facility consortium.

A total of 30 million doses is planned, according to Queiroga. The measure, which is part of international humanitarian cooperation in the fight against Covid-19, was authorized through a Provisional Measure edited by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

According to the Ministry of Health, sending vaccines to other countries will not harm the vaccination of the Brazilian population and will not impact the National Plan for the Operationalization of Vaccination against Covid-19 (PNO).
