Prevention
The accumulation of standing water is one of the main facilitators for the proliferation of Aedes aegypti – the mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
Therefore, experts recommend paying attention to places that can retain water, such as plant pots, old tires and gutters. In places where it is difficult to avoid standing water, the use of larvicides is recommended.
In Brazil, the only vaccine authorized for use against dengue is sold by the private network and not made available by the Unified Health System (SUS). In addition, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) does not recommend the immunizing agent for people who have never had contact with the virus.
