Brazil ends third week in a row with drop in Covid-19 cases

Brazil recorded 108,725 cases and 851 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The data were released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) this Saturday (19).

With the update, the country closed the epidemiological week (between February 13 and 19) with 741,844 cases. It is the third straight week of decline since the country faced the peak week between January 23 and 29, when it recorded 1,305,447 cases.

The current week’s numbers represent a 43% drop from the record week.

The number of deaths from Covid-19 also dropped from the previous week, which had been the worst in 2022. This week there were 5,832 deaths, against 6,246 the previous week – a drop of 13%.

The moving average of cases fell for the tenth day in a row, reaching 105,978. The moving average of deaths fell for the second day, reaching 833.

The moving averages consider the averages of the numbers recorded in the last seven days and are used to correct eventual distortions due to underreporting on weekends.

In all, since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has accumulated 28,137,587 cases of Covid-19 and 643,880 deaths from the disease.]

59% of municipalities are resistant to childhood vaccination

A survey released by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) indicates that more than 59% of Brazilian municipalities reported population resistance to the vaccination of children aged between 5 and 11 years. For the survey, the entity heard 2,193 local managers between the 14th and 17th of February.

At least 98.9% of the cities consulted by the Confederation have already started vaccination in this age group. Of the total, 2.3% of managers said that there were serious adverse reactions in children who took the vaccine against Covid-19, while 94.4% did not register serious reactions. 3.3% of municipalities did not respond to this question. Asymptomatic patients also need medical care.

After being diagnosed with Covid-19, many people have symptoms related to the heart and lungs. However, what was not expected is that these symptoms continued after months.
