Brazil exceeds 300 million doses applied

Just over ten months after the start of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19, Brazil reached, this Saturday (20), the mark of 300 million doses applied. With 300,128,094 applied since January 17, 88.64% of Brazilians over 12 years old have already received the first dose of the vaccine. Thus, the country reaches 60.24% of the general population and 80% of adults vaccinated with two doses or a single dose of vaccines against Covid-19 available in the country.

Comparing the advance of vaccination, the country took about five months to reach 100 million doses applied, and it took another three months to reach 200 million. Now, it took two months to add another 100 million doses to the total number of vaccinations.

The data are from the state health departments compiled by the CNN Agency.

In a new phase of the campaign, the Ministry of Health advised, last Tuesday (16), that the booster dose – or third dose – can now be applied to the entire population over 18 years old. The paste also reduced, from 6 to 5 months, the interval for those who completed the two doses and need to be vaccinated with the booster dose.

Another novelty was the announcement that those vaccinated with the single dose of Janssen should take, two months after the first application, a second dose of the immunizing agent before receiving the conventional booster dose. In Brazil, until now, the immunizing agents Coronavac/Butantan, Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Janssen have been applied.

Currently, 11 capitals are already applying the booster dose to the entire adult population, according to the deadlines, since the beginning of the week: Porto Alegre, Goiânia, Campo Grande, Maceió, São Luís, Belém, Palmas, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro , Macapá and Recife. Another six capitals should start this weekend: Aracaju, Salvador, Fortaleza, Rio Branco. Curitiba and Porto Velho. The other 10 capitals do not have a forecast.

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 21 million people need to return to their posts to take the second dose of the vaccine. Aiming to immunize this population, the ministry will carry out morning (20) the Mega Vaccination campaign, whose target audience is the entire population over 18 years of age.

The action will have a national mobilization to reinforce the importance of completing the vaccination cycle.

According to a survey by the Ministry, São Paulo, with 4.1 million people; and Minas Gerais, with more than 2.2 million, are the states that have the most Brazilians in this situation. Among the late, 2.9 million are between 30 and 34 years old, the age group with the largest number of people who have not returned to the vaccination post.

In relation to the percentage of the vaccinated population, 72.13% of those eligible to receive the vaccine, that is, those over 12 years old, have the complete vaccination schedule — that is, they received both doses or a single dose of Janssen.

Proportionally, the state that has the largest number of people with the complete vaccination schedule is São Paulo, which has already vaccinated 86.54% of the population over 12 years old with two doses or a single dose.

Brazil is the 38th country in the global ranking for the application of doses of vaccine against Covid-19 per 100 inhabitants. The comparison is based on calculations from Our World in Data, linked to the University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom.

Among the countries that make up the G20, group of the 20 largest economies in the world, the country ranks 4th, with 140.70 doses applied to every 100 inhabitants. In relation to the number of absolute doses, Brazil is the 4th country that most applied vaccines compared to the rest of the world.

China follows in first place, with more than 2 billion doses applied.

According to the Ministry of Health, 364,097,121 vaccine doses were distributed to Brazilian states. Monitoring by CNN indicates that 82.4% of them have already been applied to the population.
