Brazil exceeds 400,000 probable cases of dengue, says Ministry of Health

Brazil registered 408,351 probable cases of dengue, according to data released this Friday (9) by the Ministry of Health. Also according to the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, the country has 62 confirmed deaths and another 279 under investigation in relation to the disease. illness.

According to information from the ministry, Minas Gerais, with 143,876 cases, remains the state with the highest number of diagnoses.

São Paulo is second, with 63,033 cases, and the Federal District is third, with 49,915 probable cases.

In terms of incidence rate per 100 thousand inhabitants, the federal capital leads with 1,771.9 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. Next is Minas Gerais, with 700.5 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. Acre, with 4,640 probable cases, is third on the incidence coefficient list.

According to the Panel's information, women make up the majority of probable cases with 54.9% of diagnoses. Adults between 30 and 39 years old are the most infected age group, with 43,795 cases among women and 36,721 cases among men.

On Thursday (8), the Ministry of Health, together with the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) and the National Council of Municipal Health Secretaries (Conasems), began distributing dengue vaccines to municipalities that meet the criteria defined by the folder.

Immunization will begin with children aged 10 to 11 and will progressively advance the age group, as soon as new batches are delivered by the manufacturing laboratory.

Children and adolescents between 10 and 14 years old are considered the target audience for vaccination, following the recommendation of the Technical Advisory Board on Immunization (CTAI) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The initial batch of 712 thousand doses of vaccine will be sent to 315 municipalities in the Federal District, Acre, Amazonas, Bahia, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba and São Paulo. The Federal District and the state of Goiás received the first shipments on Thursday (8). The rest should receive it over the next few days.

At this point, the Ministry of Health serves 60% of the 521 selected municipalities with the quantity of vaccine available. The ministry's forecast is that all 521 municipalities will receive doses for vaccinating the 10 to 11 year old age group by the first half of March.

With the receipt of the 6.5 million doses available by the laboratory in 2024, the ministry states that it will guarantee the vaccination of the entire target audience, aged 10 to 14, in the 521 selected municipalities, over the next few months, in a progressive manner .
