Brazil grew 0.81% in exports of industrial goods in 2021, shows CNI

Brazil improved its performance in exports in 2021, according to data from the study “Performance of Industry in the World”, released this Friday (14) by the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), but it lost position in the world ranking of both production and production. exports.

In the indicator referring to world exports of goods from the manufacturing industry, Brazil grew from 0.77% in 2020 to 0.81% in 2021. The increase, however, should not be sufficient to increase or maintain the country’s position in the ranking, which should lead Brazil to lose one position and move from 30th to 31st place, losing ground to Indonesia.

“To reverse this trajectory of loss of participation in exports of industrial goods, we need a national foreign trade strategy that addresses the old challenges of competitiveness such as bureaucracy and tax residues in exports and, at the same time, expands and improves our networks of trade agreements to avoid double taxation with strategic partners”, says the manager of International Trade and Integration, Constanza Negri.

In relation to Brazilian production, the decline in world share was from 1.31% in 2020 to 1.28% in 2021, according to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Consequently, Brazil was overtaken by Turkey and dropped to the 15th position in the ranking.

Considering the 5.3% drop in world exports in 2020, the CNI estimate indicates an increase of 20.4% in 2021. In Brazil, the drop in exports in 2020 represents more than double the world average (12.6 %) and, for 2021, the estimate is for a growth of 26.3%, above the global average.

The study also pointed out the 11 countries that are Brazil’s main partners: Germany, Argentina, China, South Korea, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

The estimate is that South Korea, Germany and Japan will register the largest losses of participation between 2020 and 2021, considering Brazil’s trading partners evaluated. Even so, the last two countries should remain in the second and fourth position in the ranking of the largest world exporters, respectively. As for South Korea, the forecast is that it will lose two positions in the ranking, taking the country to 8th place.

Of the top rankings, China ranked first and the United States ranked second and recorded the best performers in 2021. Between 2020 and 2021, the US share of global manufacturing value added grew from 16, 59% to 16.76%.

China, on the other hand, had the best performance in both production and global exports of the manufacturing industry in 2021. Regarding the share of world exports of manufacturing industry goods, China recorded an increase of 17.10%, in 2020, to 18 43% in 2021. As for the share in the added value of the global manufacturing industry, between 2020 and 2021 the country had an increase from 30.08% to 30.45%.
