Imagine a warm, untouched paradise. White sand beaches. Turquoise dyed water as clear as gin. And you have the number 1 beach in the world in 2022, according to users of TripAdvisor.
The travel platform has just launched the second of its annual awards Travelers’ Choice for 2022: The Best of the Best Beaches.
Coming out at the top is Grace Bay Beach on the islands Turks & Caicos.
This charming spot on the Atlantic Ocean isn’t exactly new to the best beach circuit. In the 2021 TripAdvisor awards, it ranked 4th.
The 10 best beaches in the world for 2022
The Caribbean has the most beaches on this year’s top 10 list, and five continents are represented in the count. Brazil is the only destination to have more than one choice with impressive three beaches.
For 2022, the best beaches are:
1. Grace Bay Beach: Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos
two. Varadero Beach: Varadero, Cuba
3. Turquoise Bay: exmouth, australia
4. Fourth Beach: Morro de Sao Paulo, Brazil
5. Eagle Beach: Palm – Eagle Beach, Aruba
6. Radhanagar Beach: Havelock Island, India
7. Sancho Bay: Fernando de Noronha, Brazil
8. Trunk Bay Beach: Virgin Islands National Park, US Virgin Islands
9. Dolphin Bay: Praia da Pipa, Brazil
10. Spiaggia dei Conigli: Lampedusa, Italy
Last year’s No. 1 – Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island in Australia – didn’t make the top 10 this year.
The best of Grace Bay Beach
TripAdvisor said in a press release that Grace Bay Beach has had more than 7,200 reviews to date and that 90% of them receive the highest rating.
The beach is on the northeast coast of the island of Providenciales. You can think of it as part of the Caribbean – and it’s really close – but the entire territory of Turks & Caicos is technically in the Atlantic Ocean.
A barrier reef helps keep Grace Bay Beach free of algae and other objects, says the official Turks & Caicos tourism website. Boating and other water sports are popular in the calm, shallow waters between the beach and the reef.
Going to Turks and Caicos
Here’s what you need to know about a trip to Turks & Caicos during the pandemic.
First, visitors from all over the world are welcome to vacation there; however, they must be fully vaccinated if they are 16 years of age or older.
All travelers aged 2 years and older require a negative Covid-19 PCR test result taken no more than three days prior to arrival, and no quarantine is required. A travel authorization form needs to be completed and Covid-19 travel insurance is also required.
Masks are mandatory in all public places until February 28 for ages 2 and up, and there are no restrictions on travel between islands.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had a Level 4 (very high risk) travel advisory on the islands on February 22. This is the CDC’s highest level, and the agency advises people to avoid the Turks & Caicos Islands for now.
The 10 best beaches in the USA
TripAdvisor also has a separate category just for beaches in the United States.
States with a Pacific coast gain big in 2022, with only one Gulf of Mexico beach and one Atlantic location on the list. Hawaii kept four spots to itself.
The best US beaches for 2022 are:
1. Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area: Puako, Hawaii
2. Siesta Beach: Siesta Key, Florida
3. Poipu Beach Park: Poipu, Hawaii
4. Moonstone Beach: Cambria, California
5. Kailua Beach Park: Kailua, Hawaii
6. Driftwood Beach: Jekyll Island, Georgia
7. Ruby Beach: Olympic National Park, Washington
8. Cannon Beach: Cannon Beach, Oregon
9. La Jolla Cove: La Jolla, California
10. Ho’okipa Beach Park: Paia, Hawaii
Hawaii’s largest island, Hapuna Beach, “has the perfect waves for surfing, boogie boarding and body surfing,” TripAdvisor said.
First place in 2021, St. Pete Beach in St. Petersburg, Florida did not make the top 10 of 2022.
How locations are chosen
According to TripAdvisor, selections honor the most popular locations among its reviewers.
The Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award was based on the quality and quantity of TripAdvisor traveler reviews and reviews of beaches, collected between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021.
A recent survey also revealed that 37% of travelers will take a trip to the beach in 2022, the platform said.
