After an expansion of more than 50% in solar and wind energy in Brazil in 2021, the trend is for the two matrices to continue expanding markets next year.
In an interview with CNN Radio, the professor at the Fluminense Federal University and coordinator of the Energy and Regulation group, Luciano Losekann, stated that the country “is following a global trend towards the diffusion of the two energy sources”.
“Brazil has favorable potential for wind and solar energy and is engaging in this trend that has already been strong in pioneer countries, this is the moment”, he added.
Losekann recognizes that Brazil is a leader in renewable energy, with hydropower being the dominant one. “We are at the forefront in the effort to decarbonize the energy generation matrix.”
According to the professor, the environment is favorable for wind and solar energy. In addition to the environmental concern, he reinforces that the release of a free market for consumers and distributed generation encouraged the advancement of the sector.
Losekann reinforces, however, that, in moments when “nature does not cooperate”, when there is no sun and wind, it is important to have options such as energy powered by natural gas. “We are experimenting with a complementation between these renewable sources, even so we have to be concerned, because they are sources that, at certain times, will not be available”, he added.
