More than 37 million Spaniards are eligible to vote in Spain’s general elections this Sunday (23). Of these, 35,141,122 reside in the country and the other 2,325,310 live abroad. The data are from INE, National Institute of Local Statistics.
The ten foreign countries with the most eligible voters are: Argentina (434,599), France (237,656), United States (157,969), Cuba (152,791), Germany (142,537), Mexico (135,753), United Kingdom (133,909), Brazil (120,295), Venezuela (117,911) and Switzerland (107,824).
In the “top 10”, there are almost two million Spanish voters – more than 80% of the total, when considering countries with more than 50 thousand voters in Spain.
Voters in Brazil
Brazil, with more than 120 thousand voters, appears in eighth place. Considering only South America, the country occupies the second position, behind only Argentina, leader in Spanish voters outside Spain.
To vote in Brazil, the person must have Spanish nationality, be registered as a resident in the consular demarcation – embassy or consulate – and in the Electoral Census of Absent Residents.
If you are temporarily in the consular demarcation, you must be registered as a non-resident in the Consular Registry.
The vote can be sent by mail or deposited at the corresponding polling center in Brazil in accordance with the consular demarcation, following the deadlines established by the Spanish government.
