Brazil has more than 345,000 probable cases and 36 deaths from dengue

The Ministry of Health reported this Monday (5) that Brazil has 345,235 probable cases of dengue . According to the ministry, the country recorded 36 deaths from the disease, and another 234 are under investigation.

Among probable cases, the incidence is higher among women, with 54.8% of those infected. Adults aged 30 to 39, including men (31,138) and women (37,089), are the age group with the highest number of probable cases.

According to data from the Ministry, Minas Gerais is the state with the highest number of probable cases, with 112,349 . Next comes the state of São Paulo, with 56,599 possible records of the disease.

The Federal District is third, with 45,782 probable cases, but leads in the incidence coefficient per 100 thousand inhabitants, with a coefficient of 1,625.2 .

Minas Gerais is the second state in the assessment of the incidence coefficient, with 547.0 per 100 thousand inhabitants .

Acre has 4,196 probable cases, but is the third state in terms of incidence rate, with 505.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Due to the increase in dengue cases, the Federal District, Acre, Minas Gerais and Goiás have already declared a public health emergency.

This Monday (5), the city of Rio de Janeiro also declared a state of public health emergency due to the disease.

According to the city council's Epidemiological Observatory, Rio de Janeiro has already registered 11,202 cases this year. “In a single month of 2024 we already have almost half the cases of the entire previous year, which generates intense concern,” said Rio’s municipal health secretary, Daniel Soranz.

Also according to the Ministry of Health, Brazil has 19,958 probable cases of chikungunya, with three deaths from the disease and 20 deaths being investigated.
