Brazil recorded 292,068 new cases of Covid-19 in the epidemiological week that started on June 5 and ended this Saturday (11), according to data released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass). It was the period with the highest number of new infections by the coronavirus since the interval between March 6 and 12 – when 317,082 infections were counted.
The peak of new cases in Brazil, according to Conass data, was recorded between January 23 and 29 this year, when just over 1.3 million infections were reported to health authorities.
In the epidemiological week ended this Saturday, 1,077 deaths related to Covid-19 were recorded. It is the highest number since the week between April 3 and 9, when the indicator stood at 1,112. The weekly peak of deaths occurred between April 4 and 10 last year, with 21,141 fatalities from the disease.
In the last 24 hours, Brazil recorded 27,796 new cases of Covid-19, with 114 deaths. The Federal District and six other states did not report data to Conass this Saturday: Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Rio de Janeiro, Roraima and Tocantins.
The moving average of cases in the last seven days is at 41,724, while that of deaths reached 154.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has 31,445,137 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 668,074 deaths.
